Environmental Honors

 Covanta's efforts in pursuing environmental excellence have been widely recognized, as evidenced by the partial list below:

AwardsCovanta Energy received the Energy Innovator Award from the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

  • Covanta Energy and its partners in the Fishing for Energy program  received the Coastal America Partnership Award, the highest level award for partnership efforts, from the President of the United States.
  • Covanta Kent received the 2011 Clean Corporate Citizen certificate of recognition issued by Michigan's Department of Environmental Quality for its commitment to maintain, protect and enhance the state's environmental resources.
  • Covanta Delano received the Energy and Clean Air Award from the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce.
  • Covanta Alexandria and Fairfax were admitted to the Virginia Environmental Excellence Program.
  • Covanta Honolulu received the Kapolei Outstanding Achievement (KOA) Community Environmental Achievement Award.

Virginia Environmental Excellence ProgramCovanta Alexandria received the Virginia Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award for its Environmental Management System.

  • Covanta Lee County was named Renewable Energy “Project of the Year” by Power Engineering magazine and has also received the American Public Works Association (Florida Chapter) "Project of the Year" award in the structures and environment category.

Covanta Essex has received the Golden Broom from New Jersey Clean CommunitiesCovanta Essex received the New Jersey Clean Communities Business Partnership Award and the Stewardship of Public Lands Award.

  • Covanta Southeastern Connecticut (SECONN) received the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection’s Green Circle Award for community clean-up and hazardous waste collection volunteering.
  • Covanta Kent received the Michigan Clean Corporate Citizen designation
  • Covanta Lake received the Council for Sustainable Florida's Sustainable Florida Promising Practices for Outstanding Achievement Award.

Covanta Energy has been recognized by the U.S. EPACovanta Mid-Connecticut received a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) New England Environmental Merit Award.
