John Klett

Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer

As chief technology officer, Mr. Klett is responsible for developing and commercializing new Energy-from-Waste technologies as well as supporting technologies. He also oversees research and development efforts and focuses on expanding service to existing customers and opening markets for new customers. Mr. Klett has over 40 years of hands-on experience in power plant operation, including 30 years in the Energy-from-Waste industry. Previously, he served as the company's chief operating officer.

Mr. Klett joined Covanta in 1986 as vice president of Operations. He was promoted to executive vice president in 1998 and provided the leadership to sustain record years of production through the company’s restructure during and after its bankruptcy. He was appointed senior vice president of Operations in 2004 and led the operational due diligence on the acquisitions and transition of the American Ref-Fuel Company.
