Community Outreach

Covanta Hennepin is committed to being an active and supportive community member. Covanta believes it has a responsibility to give back to the community by investing in communities where we operate; providing jobs for local residents; and supporting education, the environment, social and economic development. Over the past 21 years, we have been a sponsor of many public, private and non-profit organizations. Sponsorship has included in-kind donations of monetary funds, equipment, and/or time and labor.

Here is a list of community events and organizations we have supported through volunteering and/or donations:

  • Community Mercury Collection Programs
  • Conservation Minnesota
  • Greater Minneapolis Regional Chamber
  • Institute on the Environment at University of Minnesota
  • Kids for Saving Earth (KSE)
  • Minneapolis Urban League
  • Minnesota Environmental Initiative
  • Nellie Stone Johnson Elementary School
  • The Stairstep Initiative
  • West Broadway Business & Area Coalition

Covanta Hennepin is committed to providing those living in the community with a better understanding of the benefits of their neighborhood resource recovery facility. If there are any community concerns regarding the facility or its operation, please contact us.

Covanta Hennepin, in partnership with Hennepin County Environmental Services, provides escorted tours of the facility to anyone interested in learning more about the energy-from-waste process. The facility has hosted tours for students from local grade schools, high schools, universities and colleges, various civic and community organizations, and our customers.
